Kirtan is the call and response singing of sacred mantras in Sanskrit. We join together in this practice to move more deeply into our hearts, and thus to come more fully into the present moment. Kirtan is an excellent source of inner nourishment, as we calm and soothe our restless minds and experience joy together. By singing these ancient powerful melodies, accompanied by the sweet chords of the harmonium, the transcendental vibrations allow us to create space within and to move toward inner peace. Kirtan is at the heart of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of spiritual devotion. This practice is good for all ages, spiritual beliefs, and singing abilities.
