ABOUT THE RETREAT:
The theme of this once-in-a-lifetime experience pilgrimage — a journey we undertake consciously for purposes of personal, spiritual, and relational transformation. The communitas we cultivate as a group helps deepen both the profundity of the inner reflections as well as the outward discoveries. Encountering the Divine and fostering what we most need are the purposes of pilgrimage. And while we will certainly follow paths into ancient and contemporary sites, the voyage within will be the real point of reclamation and healing. Yogic practices (made accessible to ALL bodies) will provide us the traction and solid ground to take each next step of this journey.

The retreat begins with a night (to rest after long travel) in Lima, followed by a flight to Cusco the next day. After settling in at the hotel, we will explore the Incan ruins and historical contexts of this breathtaking place with an Indigenous guide and have a free evening to delight, dine, and rest. On day 3 we make our way to the Sacred Valley, stopping by a weaving co-op to learn about this centuries long cultural heritage. We will stop in the village of Pisac…a charming village with spectacular Inca ruins overlooking the village. The Pisac artisan market is one of the most famous in Peru which allows for shopping, mixing with the locals, using your Spanish and bargaining skills. A tour through the ruins is an option as well. Following a hearty lunch in Pisac we arrive in Urubamba at Lizzy Wasi, our home for the duration of the retreat. We will be offered a Welcome ceremony with Ernesto Aliaga, an honored shaman, light and sound worker, and one of the more famous photographers in Peru. Our daily rhythm will include morning practice, breakfast, and a pre-dinner meditation. We will trace the intelligence of the senses and their attendant elemental powers as we drop humbly into this magnificent place. We will also have breakout discussions, journal/reflection prompts, and work with the sacred teachings of Nāda Yoga (the Yoga of sound). Some days we will have optional excursions: Machu Picchu, of course, as well as the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo, the Inca salt flats of Maras, and the Urubamba open air market. On day 10, some folks will head home to Lima while others will extend the journey with an optional excursion into the Amazon to Sandoval Lake Lodge in the Tambopata Reserve. From March 5-9th, we will come to know this most precious place on the planet–teeming with birds, giant otters (endangered species), monkeys, and the pulse of life all around and within.
This retreat has been created with ethical travel and real relationships as the guiding ethos. Rather than seek out posh places that have little to no relationship with local people and place, our retreat is centered on responsible and reciprocal relationship with local people, place, paradigms, and customs. In collaboration with those who both live in and love Peru, this time together will offer us all an opportunity to be forever changed.
